Unesco cultural heritage / Industry monument "Völklinger Hütte"
Combine your stay in Saarbruecken with a visit to the
UNESCO-World Cultural Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte. It is the only fully preserved ironworks from the heyday of industrialisation. The pig-iron production was closed in 1986. The UNESCO awarded the Völklinger Hütte the status of a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1994. Converting an area of more than 600.000 m², the Völklinger Hütte is today one of the most exciting places in the world.
The historical circular walk in Völklingen will give you an impression of the daily life of the steel/iron workers. It will also introduce you to the history of the Saarland which was characterized by iron, steel and coal-mines.
